TFL CALLS ON THE POLICE TO REFRAIN FROM USING RUBBER BULLETS AGAINST YOUNG PEOPLE AND MINORS
The use of rubber bullets against young protesters, including minors under the age of 18, on the fifth day of the protest in front of the Ministry of Education raises serious concerns about their health and physical integrity.
Together for Life (TFL) calls on the State Police not to use rubber bullets as a means of force or retaliation against young people and minors under any circumstances. Furthermore, the use of rubber bullets today raises serious questions about the necessity and proportionality of the police response, particularly given that, at the time of the intervention, there was no immediate threat to the lives of police officers.
These concerns are compounded by the indiscriminate use of tear gas throughout the five days of protests. Both rubber bullets and tear gas pose serious risks to the health of protesters, passers-by and other people present at the scene.
TFL calls on the leadership of the State Police to clarify the circumstances surrounding the use of these measures and to ensure an impartial and transparent investigation into every instance of excessive use of force.
Protecting the lives and health of young people and minors must be a priority under all circumstances. Maintaining public order cannot justify the use of force beyond what is necessary and proportionate.
